sick

July 12, 2004

blech. it’s my first sick day at my new job. i don’t even know what exactly is making me so sick. my body feels really weak, and my temperature seems to fluctuate a lot during the day, making me alternate between shivering and sweating. my stomach is in knots and my head feels vaguely disconnected from my body. i feel weepy and tired.

how fast the days go by

my birthday is coming up, so i decided to get myself a couple of dvds: cover and cover. yeah, that’s right.

^ that’s not meant to be an imperative sentence, by the way. seppo took me to the golden gate theater on saturday as an early birthday present. it was so much fun! the details are quite a bit different from the movie, but all the differences were interesting and engaging, and only added to my enjoyment of the show. it was really sweet of seppo to take me to see it. he got us really great seats too. they were probably the best seats i’ve ever had to anything ever. we pigged out at mel’s diner afterwards. we missed lunch, so we were starving.

the iPod sure is pretty. making it even prettier is the fact that i now hold one in my grubby hands. seppo got me one as an early birthday present. 🙂 yay! it’s 20gbs of compact elegance. today, i picked up the awkwardly named “Digital Lifestyle Outfitters Transpod All-in-One Car Solution with FM Transmitter” to mount, charge, and play from the ipod while in the car. it’s pretty cool. no dangling cords or anything, just a simple mount that protrudes from the cigarette lighter.

the wonder-filled return of our companion

he’s back! someone called him in late friday night/saturday morning. we got a best buy gift card for the person who called him in and left it at the person’s door today. we were so happy that we bawled our eyes out on the drive over to pick him up.

mobi ran off during the day today from Seppo’s parents’ house. we have been canvassing the neighborhood, and seppo has put up a bunch of flyers. we called some of the local shelters. tomorrow, we are going to go visit some and hope that he’s brought in quickly. my insides hurt so much with worries of what he’s going to eat, where he’s going to sleep, and if he’s terrified out of his mind. i hope he doesn’t run out into the streets. as long as he doesn’t, i have faith that we will find him. i love him. he must be so hungry and scared.

^ means two weeks in korean. i have finished two weeks at my new job, and guess what folks? i love it. i really really love it. the people are really nice, sharp, and willing to help. they have a generally positive outlook. there are a bunch of people of different levels of experience, and it’s a great mix, in my opinion. the work itself is interesting and it’s gratifying to see my changes reflected on my handheld. even the commute, which worried me a lot, is not so bad, especially given that i know that everyday, mobius either has raki (the next door neighbor dog) to play with or will be walked by seppo’s mom, so i don’t have to feel guilty about the hours we are adding to the time we are away from home. in addition, we are working out our cooking so that we have more homecooked meals.

life is pretty good.

i just finished reading the da vinci code. i give it a 3 out of 5. i give the research and general premise a 5 out 5, but the end-game and characterizations were very weak to the point of frustration (and some eye-rolling). The heavy-handed foreshadowing, coupled with very weak puzzles, is what finally brings it down to a 3 out of 5.

i have shamefully mismanaged my “time off” between jobs. i should have been so completely through with CP, even down to the administrative details, such that I was done two fridays ago. instead, i worked until wednesday morning of last week, then spent thursday getting ready to fly out to a wedding (it was so beautiful and personal, i cannot even describe how intimate and right it felt), from which i returned on sunday night. i went in to the office on monday for my exit interview and ended up having lunch with a coworker. tuesday, i went in again to have lunch and clean out my desk, as well as transfer files that i wanted to keep from my desktop. wednesday, i went back to drop off my laptop and have yet another lunch with the same coworker, because i stupidly had not done so before, which i should really have. transferring all the files that i wanted to keep from the laptop took a good 5 hours. i stayed at “work” late, until about 9pm. i’m so dumb. yesterday was my first real day of rest, which went pretty well. but now, i have a head cold. heh. way to go on enjoying the last few days before the new job! i better get lots of rest and grocery shopping done over the weekend, so we’ll have something to eat.

logging out, blogging in

May 25, 2004

i’m writing this from my desk at my “former” job (“former” because my last official day is next monday, but i am done with work), right before shutting down the computer. i’ll then ask the facilities people to help me take my things to my car, then i’ll log in from this place never again. tomorrow, i am coming back into the area to have lunch with my friend who still works here, as well as to drop off my cleaned-up laptop, but i’m surrendering all my items right now. my desk area has been cleared off. i rather wish i had a photo of it.

i won’t miss the company or the work at all, but i’ll miss my little desk.

… is to not drink 4 cups of tea between 7:30 and 9:00pm with dinner. 4:30am, and I still can’t fall asleep.
